From Circularity to Energy Security: Looking Ahead to Reims 2027
David Baxter
Former Project Manager, European Commission, Joint Research Centre
EUBCE Executive Committee Member
“The world certainly does not stand still and with another hotter than expected summer almost behind us, and with national economies facing big challenges from worldwide political upheavals, each of us must contribute to ways of creating security in our communities. Well before EUBCE in The Hague in May 2026 we in the biomass community were hoping that international politics would find some calm. One of the key focuses at the 2026 conference was circularity in the use of biomass. While circularity will undoubtedly continue to remain a key technical focus in the biomass community, security of energy, materials and chemicals supply from biomass will become increasingly necessary to counter the effects of political instability in the world, and of course to counter the damaging effects of climate change. We eagerly look forward to meeting the biomass community in Reims in 2027 to work together towards all important solutions to the many challenges we all face”.
Publication Opportunities at EUBCE 2027
The publication of research is a key component of the EUBCE conference. For this reason, we have devoted considerable effort to offering a range of publication opportunities, all easily searchable through widely used online platforms.
Selected contributions may be considered for publication in four partner journals: Biomass and Bioenergy, Resources, Sustainability, and Biofuels, Bioproducts & Biorefining. Publication is subject to each journal’s independent peer-review process.
-
Biomass and Bioenergy by Elsevier publishes a number of papers following the full refereeing process of the journal.
-
The journal Resources by MDPI produces a special issue comprising papers either recommended by the editors or offered by authors who have made a presentation at the annual EUBCE conference.
-
Sustainability by MDPI produces a special issue comprising papers either recommended by the editors or offered by authors who have made a presentation at the conference.
-
BIOFPR, Biofuels, Bioproducts & Biorefining, a vital source of information on sustainable products, fuels and energy, by Wiley.
-
In addition, all accepted and submitted plenary, oral, and visual presentation papers are published online with full open access on the EUBCE Proceedings website. The proceedings are indexed by SCOPUS. Each paper is assigned a Digital Object Identifier (DOI), ensuring permanent and citable access.
When preparing your abstract for EUBCE 2027, we encourage you to explore the many publication opportunities available - and take full advantage of the visibility and recognition that come with publishing through EUBCE.
The deadline for abstract submission is 30 October 2026.
