EUBCE 2026: A Meeting Point for Science, Industry, and Policy

David Bater

Former European Commission, Joint Research Centre
EUBCE Executive Committee Member

The 34th edition of EUBCE in The Hague in The Netherlands in May 2026 will bring into focus the many achievements not only of the host country but of a wide range achievements from multiple countries around the world. Over the last decade, EUBCE has steadily increased the number of reports from evolving and successful scaled up projects from around the world. The constantly expanding interest and involvement of industrial organisations in biomass conversion projects has been highlighted and for 2026 we can expect to see yet more industrial involvement and consequent successes to be presented. We will also be able to learn more about the growing scientific achievements that form the basis of successful small-scale and large-scale projects for the future.

We look forward to welcoming researchers, project developers, industrial representatives and policy makers, as well as those people that simply want to learn more about the many different products and processes involving biomass conversion, to the 34th editions of EUBCE in The Hague in the Netherlands from May Tuesday 19 to Friday 22, 2026.

Publication Opportunities at EUBCE - Deadline Call for Abstracts: 31 October 2025

As you may already know, the publication of research is a key component of the EUBCE conference. In recent years, this aspect has become even more significant within the broader conference community.

For this reason, the organiser has devoted considerable effort to offering a range of publication opportunities, all easily searchable through widely used online platforms.

Four international journals regularly publish special issues featuring full-length papers following each EUBCE conference:

Biomass and Bioenergy publishes a number of papers following the full refereeing process of the journal. Authors can ask for papers to be published in the Biomass and Bioenergy special issue (Impact Factor 5.8, CiteScore 11.0).

The journal Energies (Impact Factor 3.2, CiteScore 7.3) produces a special issue comprising papers either recommended by the editors or offered by authors who have made a presentation at the annual EUBCE conference. Papers are fully refereed, and with the journal prioritising online publication, open access is usually achieved typically within 50 days of first submission.

Sustainability (Impact Factor 3.3 CiteScore 7.7) is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access journal on environmental, cultural, economic, and social sustainability of human beings, published semimonthly online by MDPI.

BIOFPR, Biofuels, Bioproducts & Biorefining (Impact Factor 2.9, CiteScore 7.4) is a vital source of information on sustainable products, fuels and energy. Examining the spectrum of international scientific research and industrial development along the entire supply chain, the journal publishes a balanced mixture of peer-reviewed critical reviews, commentary, and policy updates. Biofuels, Bioproducts and Biorefining is dedicated to fostering growth in the biorenewables sector and serving its growing interdisciplinary community by providing a unique, systems-based insight into technologies in these fields as well as their industrial development.

In addition, the official Conference Proceedings include the majority of papers submitted to the conference - for instance, 233 papers were published in 2025. All accepted and submitted plenary, oral, and visual presentation papers are published online with full open access on the EUBCE Proceedings website. The proceedings are indexed by SCOPUS. Each paper is assigned a Digital Object Identifier (DOI), ensuring permanent and citable access.

When preparing your abstract for EUBCE 2026, we encourage you to explore the many publication opportunities available - and take full advantage of the visibility and recognition that come with publishing through EUBCE.

The deadline for abstract submission is 31 October 2025.
