Abstract:

‘Promotion of regional bioenergy initiatives’ (PromoBio 20112014) contributed to the implementation of the renewable energy sources directive (RES) launched in 2008, aiming to achieve 20% share by RES in heat and power production at the EU level. The project focused on helping companies and regional decision makers in Eastern Europe to increase the use of biomass for energy. The project aimed to provide concrete support to local companies in establishing new business projects and support the development of regional policy framework related to bioenergy, primarily based on woody biomass. The project involved five partner countries (Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Austria, Finland), concentrating actions in three target regions: Olsztyn and Ostródan Poland, Centru Region in Romania and Banská Bystrica Region in Slovakia. Finnish and Austrian partners set benchmarks of welldeveloped bioenergy markets, providing their expertise in facilitating bioenergy projects in the target regions.
