Abstract:
This paper investigates whether shocks to wood fuel production for 18 countries of the European Union (EU) over the period 19612012 are transitory or permanent. A variety of timeseries and panel data unit root tests are employed. The presence of structural breaks is taken into account when performing those tests. Subsequent to the NarayanPopp univariate unit root test, wood production series for approximately 77.78% of countries is found to follow a nonstationary process. In addition, most of the panel unit root tests point towards a nonstationary process. On the whole, shocks such as forest conservation policies will tend to be permanent.
