Abstract:

Pyrolysis and combustion experiments of pulverized torrefied biomass have been carried out to examine the difference between biomass and coal combustion. Torrefied Miscanthus and Pine were investigated and compared with a typical hard coal (El Cerrejon). The progress of pyrolysis was investigated by mass loss measurements under inert conditions. To characterize the char combustion behavior under oxidizing conditions particle size and temperature were measured by two­color pyrometry at different residence times.
