Abstract:

The area ratio of land and ocean is 3 to 7, and there is enormous amount of marine biomass. It has the potential to produce biofuel energy and it can be the most attractive resources for the future. However, the production cost and energy efficiency should be improved for commercialization. In this study, hydrothermal pretreatment of marine biomass for methane fermentation and value-added oil production is considered. It is the promising technology for high moisture biomass like laminaria which has high moisture content of 90 %. To recover sugars for methane and oil production, sugar decomposition behavior should be elucidated. Mannitol was treated under hydrothermal condition to find the decomposition characteristics. Arrhenius equation was obtained.
