Abstract:
In all the European countries, as well in Lithuania, the residential heating with biofuel is applied using a variety of heating equipment: water-heating boilers, stoves, open and closed fireplaces and air heater. However, most of the devices are technically obsolete, but not being used for biofuels or just not properly equipped, so the heating system with the following devices do not perform and significantly increase environmental pollution. The investigation on performance parameters of boilers operating with different principles for improving boiler combustion chamber design, shows that situation at least with a newly manufactured boilers are improving and it already has a significant positive impact on the two main objectives -to achieve the highest and economically viable efficiency of biofuel combustion equipment and reduce the volatile and particulate matter emissions to the environment. In regard to the current state of the usage and perspectives of biofuel, the results of investigations of various types of biofuel and their mixtures heating value, composition, physical properties are presented in this article. According to the results of the experiments and theoretical investigation, the conditions of air supply optimization which is necessary for combustion are analyzed. The comparative results of investigations of waterheating boiler fired with firewood in respect with changing the design of the combustion chamber and a secondary injection site are presented. The modifications made in boiler’s combustion chamber construction have allowed to increase boiler efficiency in 6 % and to reduce the emission such as CO and CxHy more than four times.
