Abstract:
In recent years, the chelating agents have been extensively investigated because of their behavior as sequestering agents of metal ions present in aqueous solutions. One of the organic compounds that presents chelating capacity is lignin, which is found in large quantities in cell walls of plants. The aim of this work was to study the interaction between the sugarcane straw lignin and ions Cu2+ in ammonia hydroxide medium. The lignin used was obtained by Soda/AQ pulping. The lignin obtained was precipitated with sulfuric acid and macereted. It was prepared a solution 1:1 (v/v) ratio of lignin 0,1 g/L and copper 0,1 M. In the first procedure was utilized a sulfuric acid solution to precipitate the lignin and copper-lignin complex, but this methodology also digests the copper. Thereby, the procedure was modified and the solution prepared was filtrated without to add sulfuric acid. The precipitade on the filter paper showed interaction between copper and lignin, that was verified with the Infrared analysis.
