Abstract:
Although the light by計roduct of FT貞ynthesis is not a suitable fuel for conventional engines, BtL要aphtha has the potential to become the best suited fuel for future power負rains like CCS and HCCI (Combined combustion system CCS and Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition, HCCI), being even more efficient and having less emissions. Preliminary tests however indicated that further upgrading of the naphtha fraction is needed for optimized engine performance. The present work reports the environmental assessment of the Well負o茅ank (WTT) energy and CO2 impacts of different BtL要aphtha upgrading scenarios (including simple distillation, hydroisomerization, fluid catalytic cracking etc) using a life cycle analysis (LCA) approach. The paper describes the possible scenarios for the upgrading and use of BtL要aphtha, the lifecycle of each scenario and the calculation of the energy use and CO2苟q emissions. Overall, none of the upgrading options were found to significantly aggravate the impact of the BtL計rocess on energy use and GHG emissions, while at the same time providing significant economic revenue for the BtL process. It should be mentioned that the different scenarios should also be evaluated on technical and economic terms in order to determine the optimum upgrading pathway for BtL要aphtha.
