Abstract:

Main objective of this paper is to briefly show a possible solution for manure anaerobic digestion effluent treatment through the addition of a photobioreactor for growing microalgae. The idea is to create a self sufficient system using the CO2 exhausted by the engine to feed bioreactor, and nutrient contained in the liquid fraction of digestate to increase the algae growth avoiding expensive treatment and drying systems. Core point of this analysis is the big advantage coming from feeding algae bioreactor with liquid digestate. This because digested matter represents the main barrier against biogas deployment in most of the european countries. The final aim is to show how microalgae (as chlorella vulgaris or Scenedesmus dimorphous) are suitable to grow in photobioreactor using digestate nutrient content removing contaminants (as well as algal waste water treatment) and thus increasing farm facility incomes with the well known microalgae products.
