Abstract:

In the most important european long term scenarios the contribution of renewable energies to the global energy request, is extimated to increase consistently. Nevertheless the real situation in the next 20-30 years will depend from many factors like the development policy dealing with the use of renewable energies, the improvement of the efficiency of biofuel on a large scale and the study of real sustainability of bioenergy resources. This work approaches these topics considering quite a large number of liquid and solid biofuels used in domestic appliances and studies their influence on pollutants in the environment. Combustion tests have been conducted, the most important regulated pollutants have been measured and also nanoparticles emission has been taken into consideration. At the same time sampling of ambient air and PM has been conducted nearby the emission sources to achieve information about the environmental impact of each fuel in the atmosphere. Finally to complete the work, simulations of real case studies have been carried on, first of all to confirm the results obtained from the measurements and then to study how the situation evolves changing the emission sources or the urban context.
