Abstract:
In the future, more and more microalgae biomass will be needed at low production cost. This paper presents a novel process of microalgae culture permitting an easy upscale with low investment cost and a high productivity. A whole characterization of the photobioreactor is performed allowing describing its hydrodynamics and the mass transfer taking place in it. Light distribution has been modeled and a model to predict the growth of microalgae is created. To account for all the operational parameters of the photobioreactor, a global model with growing parameters, hydrodynamics and mass transfer parameters is created. The model result is compared with experimental microalgae cultures.
