Abstract:

Incentive policies for renewable energies (wind, water, solar and biomass energy) are being quite effective in Italy and there are good prospects for the achievement of the target set by the National Action Plan for renewable energies. New renewables such wind and photovoltaics have received increasing attention and have been supported by an effective incentive system. Photovoltaics in particular, which in Italy has benefited from the best rates in the world, contributes less than 3%, receives over 50% of incentives for renewable energy. Biomass and biogas are the sources that have shown the greatest potential for development in these years, and they have become the most important ones after hydropower. Biomass from dedicated crops after a positive start has undergone recently a significant slow¬down. Perspectives on the future of biomass are to be assessed under the new rules of Fifth energy account and the needs of lignocellulosic biomass feedstock for new uses..
