Abstract:

The 15 year long experiment was established in experimental plantation with assortment of selected poplar species (Populus nigra, P. deltoides) and their natural hybrids (P. × canadensis, P. nigra × P. simonii) in locality Lochocice on spoiler heap of Chabarovice surface mine (50°38‘1,244‘‘N, 13°56'59,754‘‘E) in the north– western part of Czech Republic. Following parameters were measured on trees in the end of vegetation period: survival rate, tree height, stem diameter and number of stems. The results show that different clones of poplar species and their hybrids have got different yield potentials in local conditions. Average biomass yields were higher in 3-year rotation if compared with 12-year rotation – 5,5 resp. 3,6 t(dry)/ha/year – of clones with best survival rate. Poplar hybrids of P. nigra × P. simonii had the best average yields 3,7–7,1 t(dry)/ha/year in 3-year rotation after 15 years (5 harvests).
