Abstract:

The research project "BIODIE2 ŽTechnologies for second generation biodiesel production from lignoŽcellulosic biomass", sponsored by Italian Ministry for Agriculture and Forestry, aims at developing an experimental prototype for biomass gasification and FischerŽTropsch synthesis for biodiesel production. During the research project several typologies of solid residual and dedicated biomass will be tested. The paper focuses on FischerŽTropsch reactor design and building. The chosen layout, the monitoring system, the safety system, the structure of the reactor, the piping section (flow inversion in the reactor), the temperature control system and the storage tank will be described. The size of the chosen system is larger than laboratory systems found in literature, in order to scaleŽup the experimentations to industrial conditions, but, at the same time, maintaining the system versatility of a laboratory scale system. The first tests were carried out using H2/CO bottles with a H2/CO ratio of 0.67. Gas mixture, collected inside the storage tank, has been analysed by gaschromatograph to verify composition and to have information about reaction selectivity. The paper shows the preliminary tests and results collected, that will be preparatory to the syngas cleaning system building in order to start the whole BTL experimentation.
