Abstract:
The participation of the Province of Chieti to the project IPRE within the ALTENER Community Programme had, among many others, the goal to perform a feasibility study aimed at the realization of a biomass district heating plan in the municipality of Treglio, through the involvement of different local actors. Among them also the Sansificio Vecere whose active participation in the project led to the actual construction of the plant. This article, therefore, is to demonstrate on one hand as a nontechnological European programme, such as ALTENER, may contribute to the development of renewable resources through the involvement of local actors and on the other side as the realization of a micro biomass power plant and the subsequent activation of the short chain may have positive economic, environmental and social impacts both locally and globally.
