Abstract:
The use of locally available biomass streams, which are currently hardly or not used, or sometimes require a high cost to be disposed, is the centre of the project Energy Conversion Parks. This paper presents the first results of a recently started project “ECP”, which is supported by Interreg IV –Grensregio Vlaanderen-Nederland. The goal of the project is to demonstrate the economic advantage of the use of locally available biomass streams. The approach in the project is to develop a technological concept and a business plan for 5 pilot Energy Conversion Parks in the South of the Netherlands and in Flanders (Belgium), which convert a combination of local biomass streams into useful energy and other bio-based products, through a combination of conversion processes. The innovative character of the project lays in the combination of different biomass conversion processes to energy but if possible also to materials, and creating synergies so that better economic prospects for the efficient use of local biomass potential can be reached.
