Abstract:
Sawmills in Serbia have at their disposal surplus of wood residues left after fulfill demands for thermal energy for process heating, such as drying, steaming, heating facilities, etc. This surplus depends on the quantity of wood dried, which type of wood is processed and which technology is used. Wood residues may be utilized for electric energy production, and for this kind of production there are respective incentives in accordance with Ordinance brought by Serbian Government. There are three precondition to be fulfilled in order to implement electric generation in sawmills. The first precondition is surplus in quantities of wood residues. Second precondition is the existence of permanent demand for heat. Third precondition deals with economic justification and feasibility of this kind of production. By analyzing data we proved some possibilities of using CHP in sawmills in Serbia. The potential producers of electric energy are granted favorable feed in tariffs, similar to those in EU. Wood fuels in Austria cost between 0.20 and 0.25 €/kWh, and in Serbia that price is app 0.135 €/kWh. By analyzing common cases of sawmills with capacity of 10,000 m3 per year, we came to a conclusion that there is room for use of CHP with capacity under 100 kWel.
