Abstract:
Agricultural residues represent a strategic resource of biomass for energy. Nevertheless many concerns about agro-residues combustion are arisen by the fact that common management of vineyards and orchards imply the use of agrochemicals treatments. Inorganic compounds may adhere to the residues surface or be included in the very plants tissues: combustion of such a material could produce pollutants in smoke or ashes, lowering the fuel quality of biomass and reducing its potential uses. Focusing on vine residues the authors investigated the emissions generated by a farm-size boiler (50 kW) fuelled with agricultural residues comparing the results to spruce wood chips used as reference.
