Abstract:
Logistic of biomass procurement is crucial for the economical sustainability of any forest-energy system. In Italian conditions one of the main constrains is poor forest road network, both in characteristics and extension. Also landings for chipping or stocking biomass are scarce and generally of small size. In such working conditions the choice of an adequate work system is essential for the profitability of the whole operation. This work explores the potential benefits of using roll-off container systems in biomass procurement instead of the common fixed bins system deployed in Italy.
