Abstract:
The utilization of biomass and waste for electrical power generation is state of the art. However, the electrical efficiency of biomass power plants and waste incineration plants is strongly limited due to corrosion effects. The ATZ Entwicklungszentrum researches a new concept of external superheating, without the use of additional fossil energy, to increase the electrical efficiency. In a thermodynamic model the concept was simulated for a biomass power plant. The results show a significant increase of the electrical efficiency for the whole power generation process considering the boundary conditions of existing power plants, in particular the characteristic of the turbine.
