Abstract:
Purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of ultrasonic disintegration of bio waste. The disintegration should lead to better degradability of biowaste and therefore to more biogas or/ and shorter retention time. Focus of this study is the influence of disintegration treatment time in relation to the additional energy requirement. Furthermore, the results are used to analyse the economical efficiency of this application in large scaled plants. The study was carried out with a laboratory biogas plant. Results showed that an ultrasonic disintegration pretreatment affects the gas output already after 5 minutes treatment, whereas the effect is greater after long treatment. The positive effect of the ultrasonic pretreatment improved the economic efficiency but generated higher energy consumption as well as higher investment costs.
