Abstract:
In this work five rhizomatous grasses commonly known by the name of ‘wheatgrass’ are studied along the first growth cycle aiming at the production of solid biomass in central Spain. Plant species under study are the following: Pascopyrum smithii (Rydb) A. Löve, Agropyron fragile (Roth) P. Candargy, Agropyron cristatum (Linneo) Gaertn, Thinopyrum ponticum (Podp.) Z.W. Liu & R.C. Wang and Elymus lanceolatus (Scribn. & J.G. Sm) Gould. Plant growth is analysed by periodical samplings taken from a smallscale experiment specifically designed for that purpose.
