Abstract:

This work is presenting an experimental investigation of the reactivity of biomass chars during gasification. The testrig is a droptube furnace in which wood char samples are gasified at different temperatures and in different reactive environments. Data analysis provides the experimental curves of overall mass conversion and conversion rate. A kinetic model is built up and calibrated with reference to the experimental data, in order to represent the mass transfer from solid to gas phase. The model is also describing the effect of the operating conditions (temperature, fractions of gasifiying agents) on the overall process. As a result, the time which is necessary to obtain the complete conversion is determined depending on the initial mass of char introduced in the reactor. Therefore this work provides a description of reactivity and mass conversion kinetics of large size woodchar particles.
