Abstract:
Contribution to the knowledge of sorghum varieties currently available in Spain is made in order to promote the cultivation of sweet sorghum as a short cycle crop in Spain. The survey conducted for this work resulted in the selection of ten commercial varieties that were tested in a field experiment. Performance of these sorghum varieties was studied along the growth cycle in terms of canopy height, phenological stage and yield. Biomass production, biomass partitioning into stems, leaves, panicles and grains and sugar content in stems were determined in two harvesting dates. From these results a rating of cultivars was worked out.
