Abstract:
The aim of this work is to assess the potential lignocellulosic biomass production that could be obtained in the Autonomous Community of Madrid (Spain) from cynara (Cynara cardunculus L.) energy crop. Based on the particular agroclimatic conditions of the region and its specific land use, the potential area to grow cynara energy crop is determined. GIS (Geographic Information System) tools are used to compile all the information and data in order to obtain this potential area georeferenced. Once the potential area is geographically set, yields are calculated using a production function. This function was built using predicting models based on agroclimatic indexes, climatic parameters and localized yield data obtained from field trials.
