Abstract:
Blending mandates for biofuels are a prominent way to push the largescale implementation and utilisation of biofuels for transport and mobility. Due to existing and immutable limits of domestic feedstock availability and production capacity for biofuels, it is necessary to consider largescale imports. Regarding this, international biofuels trade can offer benefits for exporting and importing countries. Up to now however, there are several obstacles and barriers that may distort or even fully constrain a proper and longterm market development. This paper is to identify the most relevant aspects of international biofuels trade and to start a dialogue about possible solution pathways towards a framework where trade supports biofuels sustainability and vice versa.
