Abstract:
Nowadays no control of the tar content in a fixedbed gasification process applying model predictive control (MPC) is possible because, firstly, the tar content can not be measured online, secondly, no model exists which is able to predict the tar content in adequate accuracy and, thirdly, no experimental data are available to validate such a model in adequate detail. This work deals with the approach followed in EVURTUB to overcome the current difficulties and develop a model which can predict and used to control the tar content in gasification applying MPC. Modelling fixedbed thermochemical processes of biomass should be considered as a multiscale problem. Molecular, particle and reactor level should be considered together. In each level the respective model will be presented, focusing on the coupling among them, together with own experimental validation. The experiments in all levels are done with wood of the same origin in order to learn about the predictive capability of the multiscale model.
