Abstract:
The Institute Technology Theology and Sciences (TTN) and the Technology and Support Centre (TFZ) have set up a joint research project to explore whether the production of biomass for energy use in Bavaria can be ethically sound. In a first step, a 3-phase “Ethical Delphi” was carried out. In a second step, the results of the Ethical Delphi were correlated with paradigmatic and normative concepts that influence the debate in order to create a variation of the “Ethical Matrix” tailored to energy from biomass. The so-created ethical tool was then applied to three different scenarios which were rapeseed for small-scaled oil production, sorghum for biogas production and wheat for bioethanol production. In this paper, this newly developed ethical tool will be introduced.
