Abstract:
Eucalyptus is expected as an energy crop. Coppice tree can provide an alternative to replanting in the second rotation in eucalyptus plantations. The environmental performance of eucalyptus woodchip production by short rotation coppice system is analyzed using life cycle assessment (LCA). Results from the LCA shows that potential of GHG emission of eucalyptus chip by coppice system is range from 0.90 g-CO2eq/MJ biomass produced at GHG emission lower case to 5.32 g-CO2eq/MJ biomass produced at GHG emission higher case. To reduce of GHG emission for eucalyptus chip production, reduction of N-fertilizer input during cultivation and improvement of energy efficiency during harvesting are effective.
