Abstract:
The steam gasification of sawdust has been carried out in a gasification bench scale plant provided with a conical spouted bed reactor. The effect of steam to biomass ratio over the gasification process has been studied in the 0-2 range. The products obtained have been classified into three different fractions: gas, tar and char. When the ratio of steam/biomass has been changing since 0 to 2, the gas mass reduces because the amount of CO is lower and higher the yield of H2. The tar amount increase approximately by 5%. Feeding more steam, the water-gas shift reaction is further important, obtaining a higher content of hydrogen. Finally, char yield is low so it can be used to provide heat to the process.
