Abstract:
Vacuum pinewood flash pyrolysis has been carried out in a bench scale plant provided with a conical spouted bed reactor. Product yields and properties have been measured at 1 and 0.25 atm and 400 șC and 500 șC. the conical spouted bed reactor is a suitable reactor for biomass vacuum flash pyrolysis, as high biooil yields have been obtained, 77 %wt at 500 șC and 0.25 atm. Vacuum increases slightly biooil yields and reduces char yield, due to the attenuation of secondary cracking and polymerization reactions. The biooil obtained under vacuum conditions is composed of heavier compounds and less water, consequently its calorific value is slightly higher. On the other hand, vacuum improves char surface characteristics.
