Abstract:
Biomass is expected to be traded in considerable amounts in the future. This implies substantial amounts of biomass materials and products need to be transported and handled. As a logistical hub, a largescale biomass bulk terminal can be used to handle and store biomass. However, despite numerous studies and research in the biomass domain, so far little work has been done from the point of view of terminal design and material handling. In addition, due to the lack of information transparency, the logistical flow related issues of biomoass (e.g. arrival pattern, modal split, stock management strategy) are unknown. This paper presents the quantitative flow properties of biomass, and a simulation model that can be used to assist in the terminal design in terms of logstic flows.
