Abstract:

New catalytic filter candles where Nickel catalyst is supported on an Al2O3 matrix. have been developed and tested at real biomass gasification conditions. The catalytic filters have been inserted in the freeboard of 0.1 m ID bubbling fluidized bed gasifier in order to reduce the organic vapours s produced during the steam biomass gasification at temperature of 810815 °C. The tar content has been determined by TOC (Total Organic Carbon) analysis of the total condensate, and by HPLC/UV analysis of tar sampled according to technical specification CEN/TS 15439. The results show that with the use of an Al2O3 based catalytic filter candle with additionally integrated Nickel catalyst, the permanent gas yield increases by 95%, the H2 content increases by 44% and the CH4 concentration in the product gas is less than 2%.
