Abstract:

Agro-pellets of various origins were tested in a 25 kW boiler: winter barley straw, oilseed rape straw, reed, old hay, miscanthus, wood-miscanthus mixes in different proportions (12.5% -25% and 50%) and wood. O2, CO, CO2, CH4, SO2 and NO emissions were measured during the tests. The flue gas chlorine (Cl) content was also determined and the data were linked to the specifications of the fuels used. Overall, agro-pellets burn less well than wood-miscanthus mixes and produce a higher CO rate and more NO, SO2 and chloride emissions in the flue gas. A surprising relationship appears to exist between moisture and SO2 emissions.
