Abstract:
Sugar cane is historically an important Brazilian economic product, it was mainly associated with sugar and alcohol production, and recently a new opportunity appeared, the electricity generation through sugar cane bagasse, specially on Brazil’s Southeast region, where we can find major Brazilian sugar cane industry. Different mechanisms were installed aiming to enhance competitiveness of such enterprise against conventional energy sources, and analyzing recent past, one can see that these mechanisms indeed achieved successfully their goals Present paper aims to explore the details of existing financial, regulatory and fiscal mechanisms within the context of sugar cane biomass electric energy production.
