Abstract:

In this study, we explored green algae as new resources for producing a natural green dye for textiles, which would be more abundant and fast growing than terrestrial plants. The objective of this study was to find an appropriate process for protecting the green color in green algae and subsequent extraction of the green colorants. Various inorganic salts including cupric sulfate, ferric sulfate, and zinc chloride were employed as green color protectors. Accordingly, the efficiency of green color protection of monostroma nitidum wittrock was investigated to find appropriate protector and conditions. And also, the efficacy of green colorants extracted from monostroma nitidum wittrock as a natural green dye was evaluated by dyeing and colorfastness tests.
