Abstract:
Torrefaction is a promising pre-treatment method significantly improving logistic, handling, and feeding properties of biomass raw materials. In the present work, different biomass samples were torrefied in an inert atmosphere at 270-310 ºC and the gas composition was determined. Compounds present in the gas-phase during torrefaction for the different biomass samples analyzed were also analyzed using pyrolysis GC/MS and were identified as decomposition products from hemicellulose, cellulose and lignin.
