Abstract:

Pellets blended from biogeneous residues, energy crops, and industrial residues offer alternative options for energetic use of wood. Incineration and gasification behavior of alternative fuels partly differ widely from those of wood. A combination of all advantages and disadvantages of each fuel may lead to a well-designed fuel blend. The effects of different fuel blends on the gasification behavior are the focus of this investigation. Wood, straw, miscanthus and their blends were gasified with steam in a laboratory fluidized bed reactor at a process temperature of 700 °C and 800 °C. The results show the dependency of the product gas composition on a change of the fuel composition. So a linear increase of CO-concentration and a simultaneous decrease of CO2-concentration are caused by a rising wood fraction in the straw pellets. In contrast there is no effect on the CH4-concentration by different fuel mixtures. No explicit trend in H2-concentration was found out.
