Abstract:
Carrier of biogas plants are more and more confronted with big amounts of digestate. As in agriculture common, there are too many nutrients in a limited area and transportation costs are high. High water content, unpleasant odour and unpropitious characteristics cause serious problems in disposal or further processing. Generating a competitive and marketable product by manufacturing pellets out of digestate should help biogas plant owner to solve the removal problem and should bring further earnings to them. Therefore the digestate is analysed regarding the structure and combustion behaviour. Raw materials characteristic deliver the requirements on the further processing equipment. By analysing the prices of competitive products like woodchips a cost limit is set. The charges of manufacturing must undercut this limit to permit a profit-making business. As a result this study should give a coarse overview of the economic feasibility to manufacture digestate to a marketable product.
