Abstract:

Within the panEuropean campaign tour ‘Energy Union’, financially supported by the Intelligent Energy for Europe Programme, the subject of Intelligent Energy is being communicated to young people using highly innovative artistic techniques. The campaign tour encourages young people to become active in an unconventional and positive way, with the help of a language which people all over the world understand: the language of music and images. The pioneering band Coldcut from London has produced a new live audiovisual show as part of the tour for promoting Intelligent Energy as solution to global problems such as energy security, economic development and climate change. An interactive artinstallation called ‘Gridio’, created by the artist association Brightonart, uses a touch sensitive dance floor to turn visitors into creators of their own audiovisual works. Panel discussions add the political dimension to the tour, to lobby policy makers and the industry to support Intelligent Energy. After a successful tour in 2009, with more than 10 000 visitors in 8 cities, the project consortium entered an extended evaluation phase, for analysing the lessons learnt from the first tour phase and optimising the campaign strategies and communication features. In 2010 and 2011, Energy Union will visit 16 cities across Europe: Zagreb, Rijeka, Ljubljana, Maribor, Cologne, Sofia, Ostende, Brussels, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Madrid, Prague, Brno, Brighton, and London.
