Abstract:
Geostatistics combined with geographic information systems have numerous applications in the location, quantification and characterization of all kind of elements distributed in a given area. At present, it has become particularly important to study alternative sources of energy in order to achieve a sustainable development. Among them, electricity production from biomass combustion is one of the most promising technologies. With the intention of using biomass for electricity purposes, in a profitable way, it is necessary that the plants have a minimal installed power. It must bear in mind this type of electricity generation requires large amounts of available wastes. In this paper, a methodology based on GIS and geostatistics is developed for the quantification, characterization of agricultural biomass residues and localization in somewhere on Extremadura. The results will determine if the selected point has a neighborhood with the capacity of supplying the required residues for a biomass power plant.
