Pollutants Removal in Wood Laminate Flooring by Low Temperature Pyrolysis

Abstract:

Among the already known technologies as an alternative to the currently production ways, biomass gasification has been studied for a long time but it is not so economically profitable. A two steps process has been set up some years ago to valorize wastes from biomass. This document suggests the first step description of this process with wood laminate flooring as fuel. This step is a "depolluting phase" through a low temperature pyrolysis in order to keep out the maximum of Nitrogen (from resins and adhesives of the material) responsible for the formation of NOx under Oxygen reactions. The balance to strike is between the eliminated Nitrogen rate and the recoverable energy remaining in the residues after treatment for the second step. Experiments are carried out in Nitrogen carrier gas at 250, 300, 350 and 400°C for different duration. Reaction gas (CO, CO2, CH4, NH3 and HNCO) are analyzed and quantified with a Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectrometer. Ultimate analyses are made on the carbonaceous residues to know the Nitrogen eliminated rate and the available energy is determined with calorimetric bomb.
