Abstract:
The purpose of the HighBio is to study input and output flows of the wood chips gasification process in pilot-scale gasifiers. Solid wood based biomass is used as a fuel in the gasification process. It is heated with the amount of air which is insufficient for total combustion in the gasifier, i.e. it gasifies the biomass to a mixture of carbon monoxide and hydrogen both 15-20 vol-% (synthesis gas). Pyrolysis equipment consists of the downdraft gasifier, the gas cleaning and cooling unit, and the ash barrel. Air dried wood chips with barks (size 0-100mm) is treated thermally, i.e. heated with limited oxygen at elevated temperatures (1050-1300°C). This process produces product gas, which can be further used for production of high-value chemicals e.g. by Fischer-Tropsch synthesis. CO content was measured by FTIR gas analyzer (Gasmet Dx4000N) and hydrogen by Dräger X-am 3000 and micro-GC
