Abstract:
Compounds, whose action in the atmosphere leads to climatic changes on the Earth, are called greenhouse gases. The main culprits are carbon dioxide, methane and dinitrogen monoxide (laughing gas), which are described as globalwarming gases. ‘Emissions’, which are generated by the use of the land and by changes in the use of the land, as well as forestry, amounted after all to 17.4% of the whole greenhouse gas emissions. ‘Agriculture’ is responsible for a clear 13.5% proportion of total emissions, so that the total field of biomass production is responsible for around a third of greenhouse gas emissions [1]. In Germany, the release of greenhouse gases has decreased by nearly 19% since 1990 [2]. It is above all the release of methane that markedly decreased, while in the past years, laughinggas emissions oscillated and slightly increased again. Carbon dioxide emissions show a slow backward evolution. The gases, which affect the climate and are released by agriculture, are mainly laughing gas and methane. Most laughinggas emissions stem from the use of the soil. That is to say from ‘biomass’ production. The proportion of laughing gas globally released by agriculture is estimated to be around 80%. For Germany, this proportion is of around 53% [3].
