Abstract:

To analyse the current situation and further market development of biobased products as well as to understand consumer behaviour towards it, a written survey was conducted in Germany, Sweden and the Netherlands in the year 2008. In the paper on hand the focus is set on consumers’ knowledge about biobased products and their willingness-to-pay for different biobased products. The survey results show that respondents do not know much about relevant political issues (e.g. targets of the EU) concerning these products, while they are better informed about the products itself (e.g. raw materials). Additionally, a limited willingness-to-pay for different types of biobased products could be detected by means of direct questions and two discrete-choice experiments.
