Abstract:
Mangrove charcoal production generates significant amounts of charcoal dust that are commonly discarded despite their energetic potential. This study evaluates the energetic valorization of mangrove charcoal dust through the production of biomass briquettes as a sustainable alternative to support local energy systems under climate change challenges. Physical and energetic properties, including moisture content, density, ash content, fixed carbon, and calorific value, were analyzed to determine fuel quality and combustion performance. The results indicate that charcoal dust briquettes present favorable thermal efficiency, improved handling characteristics, and reduced waste generation. Furthermore, the valorization of this byproduct contributes to circular economy strategies, promotes cleaner energy use, and provides economic opportunities for local communities dependent on charcoal production. The study highlights the potential of mangrove charcoal residues as an alternative biofuel that supports sustainable resource management and climate resilience in tropical regions.
