Abstract:
Paludiculture - the productive use of rewetted or wet peatlands - offers a climate-inclusive alternative to conventional drainage-based peatland use. The paper addresses the sustainability and socio-economic dimensions of emerging Typha value chains from European paludiculture. This study identifies value chains, their actors, as well as market-ready and pilot products. These activities generate a detailed overview of market opportunities and gaps, informing both sustainable land-use practices and strategies for regional economic development. By combining literature synthesis with interactive workshops, the study provides a systematic understanding of how Typha biomass can contribute to sustainable biomass utilization, rural economic diversification, and circular bioeconomy development.
