Abstract:
Biogas utilization from landfill residues starts from the valorization of organic waste, and after its processing different bio-based chemicals can be obtained. The aim of this research is to develop an efficient process for transforming biogas into biomethanol. The approach combines laboratory-scale catalytic testing under varying H2/(CO+CO2) ratios and conditions between [200-350 ºC, 60-100 bar], with process simulations to design and evaluate the entire conversion chain, excluding impurity removal. Ultimately, the process will be validated using real biogas from a landfill site. Preliminary results show that catalyst choice and syngas composition strongly influence methanol yield. Process simulations indicate that optimizing H2/CO/CO2 ratios improves efficiency and reduces costs. Experimental data from laboratory tests are being used to validate simulation models. Economic analysis suggests that the process can be competitive under certain operating conditions. In the end, the study provides insights into catalyst selection, process optimization, and real-world applicability.
