Abstract:
Enzymatic hydrolysis of Persea americana seeds as a potential biomass source for sustainable bioethanol production in a biorefinery. The operating parameters of this process, such as enzyme concentration, reaction time, and temperature, were evaluated through controlled experiments and statistical analysis, with the aim of improving production efficiency and sustainability. The methodology includes the extraction of the avocado seed, followed by a pretreatment to facilitate the release of fermentable sugars. An enzymatic hydrolysis process is carried out using specific enzymes to break down the cellulose and hemicellulose present in the biomass. A 1:1 ratio of Persea americana seed to water was used to initiate gelatinization at 100°C. The mixture was then passed through a hand mill and mixed with the gelatinization water. Enzymatic hydrolysis was then carried out with alpha-amylase at 80°C for 1 hour and glucoamylase at 60°C for 1 hour, yielding a 25°Brix solution. Fermentation was carried out at room temperature (23°C) with Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast at 13°Brix for 3 days. The mixture was filtered and distilled, yielding biethanol
